About

Welcome to Next Page Books, a locally owned independent bookstore located in the heart of the New Bohemia neighborhood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Situated in CSPS Hall, a registered historic landmark built in 1890, customers can browse a curated collection of books and sideline items in a warm and welcoming environment.

The original bookstore opened July 1, 2012, as NewBo Books, just four years after a “500-year flood” that devastated the neighborhood and much of the city along the banks of the Cedar River. The store was subsequently purchased by Bart Carithers in December 2015 who has since built a large and loyal customer base that extends throughout eastern Iowa and beyond.

The shop features a fine selection of new fiction, nonfiction, young adult, and children’s books. If a customer cannot find the titles they are looking for, books can be special ordered and, in most instances, available within two to five business days.

Branding is key for any business, and it’s something that we take seriously at Next Page Books. From the warm wall colors and original artwork to the relaxing play list (think Sufjan Stevens and Ray LaMontagne) and signature store scent (mahogany teakwood), everything we do within these four walls is intentional. Even the plants that the proprietor has managed to keep alive, it all comes together to create a unique shopping environment.

Perhaps our best asset is Frank, one of the most well-known and beloved cats in Cedar Rapids. Frank has been featured in a full-page article in the Cedar Rapids Gazette and has appeared on local television channels and ABC’s Good Morning America. He’s never shy around a camera. Frank works at the shop every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or when he’s willing. He’s a cat.

We invite you to pop in when you’re in the neighborhood. We’d love to meet you!
