Next Page Book & Social Club

Our original and longest running book club meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm. Meetings are held outdoors in the building’s courtyard during warm weather months provided the weather cooperates. Otherwise, the group gathers at an indoor location that is announced on social media and the shop’s Bookclubs.com site prior to the meeting date. Books selected for discussion tend to be relatively new releases and are offered in store at either 20% off the retail price for paperbacks or at the projected paperback price for hardcovers. The club is open to everyone who enjoys reading good books and meeting with others to discuss them.

 Cedar Rapids Silent Book Club

Silent Book Club is a global community of readers, with more than 500 chapters in 50 countries around the world. Our chapter, the original SBC in Cedar Rapids, meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm either outdoors in the building’s courtyard (weather permitting), or The Hangry Lady café located next door to the shop. Meetings open with participants sharing what they are currently reading or a book or two they recommend and then settle in for an hour-or-so of sustained reading or small group conversations. There is no assigned reading, and all readers are welcome to attend.

 Local Romantics Book Club

The Local Romantics Book Club was established in 2024 due to the strong and growing interest in the romance genre. The club, facilitated by a friend of the shop, meets outdoors, weather permitting, at 6:30pm on the second Wednesday of each month, or at an indoor location to be determined. Typically, books are selected month-to-month by club members at the end of each meeting. As with all the shop’s book clubs, the Local Romantics is not a closed group but, rather, open to anyone interested in participating. Book club selections can be purchased at the store for 20% off the retail price.

Lavender Literary Circle

Next Page Books is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone in our community feels welcome and valued. As a result, the shop established the Lavender Literary Circle, a LGBTQ+ book group, in collaboration with Cedar Rapids Pride. The club is based on the Silent Book Club Model where meetings open with participants sharing what they are currently reading or making recommendations of books they have previously read. Members are then invited to settle in for an hour-or-so of sustained reading or small group conversations. There is no assigned reading, and all readers are welcome to attend. Meetings are held at 6:30pm the fourth Wednesday of each month.
